Pre-employment Medical Assessment

What do we do differently?                                                 Contact us on 1300 669 552

Prior to performing the first assessment Actevate will request a detailed job description and arrange to visit the workplace to perform a full musculoskeletal ergonomic task analysis. Once completed, we will tailor a pre-employment assessment that assesses the inherent requirements of the specific roles within your business. The assessment includes both a health and a functional component to better identify any abnormalities that will place an application at risk of injury.

Why conduct pre-employment medical assessments?

Whilst the value of a pre-employment medical must be weighed against the cost incurred to the employer there are sound reasons for giving the practice serious consideration.

If a prospective employee has a pre-existing condition that is subsequently aggravated by their employment the employer is liable for the resulting compensation costs. In many cases such aggravation involves muscular damage, which is difficult to identify and frequently involves lengthy incapacity. A capable occupational health assessor is skilled in obtaining information relating to past injuries and ailments that a prospective employee may not have revealed to the employer.

How we can help you to keep your Workers Compensation costs low:

Our pre-employment medical will establish a benchmark for any progressive disability, limiting the extent of any future liability for the employer. This especially applies to any employment in a noisy environment. In fact, a hearing test at the point of engagement is a mandatory requirement under the NSW OH&S Act where the employee has been or is to be exposed to workplace noise.

Who will conduct the pre-employment medical assessments?

Unlike doctors, who conduct health assessments, Actevate WorkCover accredited Exercise Physiologists study and understand function and in particular the use of function in a workplace environment. As we treat workplace injuries on a daily basis we are able to identify & associate abnormalities that will place an applicant at risk of injury.

The standard assessment includes:

  • previous injury analysis and risk assessment;
  • clinical musculoskeletal pathology examination;
  • joint range of motion;
  • spinal assessment;
  • task specific functional/lifting assessment;
  • basic manual handling training;
  • JAMAR grip strength;
  • contact with GP when necessary;
  • audiometric screening (hearing levels);
  • vision screening;
  • blood pressure;
  • hernia identification; and
  • lung function.

Your assessment can also be customised to suit your needs. The standard assessment can be combined with manual handling training and if required, we also offer:

  • urine Drug screening; and
  • x-ray of the Lumbar-sacral spine; and
  • Kessler psychological testing.
